Marine - PTFE Teflon Xylan Coating

Both Teflon® and Xylan® coatings have unique properties to enhance the protection of components against the elements, above or below the waterline. Science has played its part with the formulations of PTFE coatings over the recent years PTFE coatings offer a range of properties for the marine industry, particularly when safety and security is of paramount importance. With the assistance of both Chemours and Whitford Ltd, partners of choice, provide the full range of fluoropolymer technical and engineering support required by customers.

The marine environment, either on-shore or off-shore is one of the most challenging environments. With the emphasis upon alternative methods of generating energy the world of marine technology is an expanding market. Whereas in the past, galvanising, zinc and cadmium plating or painting were the primary choices, now, PTFE coatings have a role to play for the corrosion protection of engineered components.

Coastal conditions present demands of PTFE coatings, such demands require innovative solutions that go far beyond the requirement of 500 hours salt spray test. The primary objective for the application of a Teflon® or Xylan® coating is to provide protection to the surface of engineered components and the success of the protection is governed by the parameters in which the coating has been applied, such as; surface preparation, coating thickness and methods of application With such conditions in mind, the facilities within PTFE Applied Coatings controlled by our QMS and certified by BSI, give the best opportunity for the functionality and the performance of the applied PTFE coating to deliver the protection that is required by customers.
