Teflon Single Coat Systems
Teflon® single coat systems are self-priming, one coat blends of fluoropolymer with other resins, providing a cost effective solution to many industrial low friction problems. Within the family of Teflon® coatings offered by Chemours®, there are is selection of products that will provide a suitable solution to most application requirements. Chemours® continues to offer coating technologies based upon well proven formulations that have been engineered to meet the harshest of design requirements.
Primary objectives offered throughout the Teflon® One Coat range are to make available coatings for superior non-stick properties, combining a cost effective alternative to multi-layer systems, without compromising performance best suited for the requirements. Solutions for industrial requirements include coatings being of a low cure nature, but retaining a degree of flexibility. In addition, Teflon® One Coat systems include more sophisticated products for dry lubrication and non-stick. Other properties that form part of the characteristics of Teflon® coatings include excellent wear and abrasion resistance, as well as corrosion resistance. Coatings can be applied to most substrates, although elastomeric substrates will require an alternative product. Food processing industries benefit from the cost effectiveness and in-use temperature range offered by particular coatings, not all Teflon® one coat systems are food contact compliant.
Teflon® single coat systems are fluoropolymer based, combined with suitable modifiers and resins to enhance resistance to abrasion. During the processing, components of the formulation stratify and the majority of the fluoropolymer properties, such as, low friction and non-stick are retained. In addition, the resistance to abrasion is preserved. These Teflon® coatings can often be applied to untreated and even smooth materials.
Basic Properties of Teflon Single Coat Systems:
Tensile Strength (ASTM D1708) 3000 – 12000 psi
Hardness (ASTM D2240) 60 HB (Shore D)
Abrasion Resistance (ASTM 04060) Excellent
Coefficient of Friction (ASTM D1894) .15 Static
Dielectric Strength (ASTM D149) 100 volts per mil
In Service temperature 230°C Max
Chemical Resistance (ASTM D543) Excellent
Thickness 10 to 25 microns
All Teflon® fluoropolymers have the above properties and the table below is for general guidance. However, severe compromises are seldom necessary because a Teflon coating system with the desired properties is usually available.
